How We Got Here

Kayla's Side

I met Jake on January 15, 2019, on a freezing cold Tuesday in Soho, burnt out from the NYC dating scene with zero expectations for the night. The hostess at the tapas restaurant offered to seat me in a comfortable booth, and there I waited for my future husband to unexpectedly walk through the door.

I talked a mile a minute on that first date as if Jake and I were waiting our whole lives to meet each other. It was like I was catching him up on everything he had missed - I had shared too much, and not nearly enough. I felt so sure about him, that I paid for our second date in advance, met his dad before we were even exclusive, and booked a trip to Turks & Caicos after knowing each other for just 2 weeks.

They say when you meet the love of your life, you’re supposed to feel butterflies. With Jake, it was like a long-awaited comfort and a peace, an exhale. In the years that followed, I continued to see Jake as my peace. We leaned on each other through the pandemic, through me losing my job (twice), fun little health problems, losses, and all of the “life stuff”. In 2021 we moved across the country together and started new lives on the west coast so that we could live out our every curiosity and every version of ourselves.

I fall more in love with him every single day, and I feel privileged and grateful I found someone who lets me be my truest self, and makes me feel like I am truly and wholly capable of anything.
